about

Manic Pixie Dream Comics is part of our comedy mixtape series, following RSC Presents a Comedy Mixtape (2011) and Escape from Open Mic (2008). It’s an evolution of sorts, retaining elements from past releases while adding a few new wrinkles of its own.

This album is meant as introduction of sorts. It’s an invitation to listeners to come out and watch live comedy in whatever city they live in. And it’s an invitation to comics from anywhere to drop by and do a set. We’d love to talk to you.

Interview segments by Danny Marroquin are back. They’re meant to give the listener a little background on what’s happening in this particular city’s comedy scene, as well as maybe endear these artists to audiences unfamiliar with their work.

Most of the comics on this album are Oklahoma City/Norman residents, the exceptions being Seth Joseph (who visited from Chicago to record his set and Heather King who moved to Chicago shortly after these recordings).

An anonymous performer going by the name CHORE BOY is responsible for the defensive prank call tracks that bookend Manic Pixie Dream Comics. We thought they were a fun addition.
